An order of assassins riddled in mystery and intrigue. Not much is known on the structure, size, and leadership of the order. All that is known about the order is that most members ordinarily only know two contacts throughout their career - their master, and eventually, their pupil. It is taboo in the order to attempt to contact or investigate other members, as secrecy is their strength. Anyone caught trying to break this taboo will be marked for termination. Each servant can elect to accept or decline various contracts based on difficulty or morality. The order does not have an overt agenda, usually fulfilling contracts based on request from outside parties. There is no code of conduct and an assassin can be as ruthless or as merciful as they wish. There is no out once you are in, but you are not obligated to fulfill contracts on a regular basis. However, if a contract is taken, it MUST be fulfilled per the terms of the contract or else the member will be terminated. Additionally, once a member has taken a contract, that member cannot harm the issuer of the contract, else they will be terminated. The only exception will be if the issuer fails to deliver on their end of the contract.
Each Servant is given a Red List. This is to reveal any wayward Servants who have disregarded their duties. Any member of the order can then track them down and eliminate them.
Skills and Abilities
Sacrament of Shadow
This is the first thing an initiate to the order will learn. This is the ritual that must be performed upon signing a contract. The Servant will create a runic marking in blood on the contract. This rune is a personal inscription and is not readily identified. However, if the contract is not upheld in full, the rune will change shape and form the Sevant's true name, as well as inscribing it on the Red List. If it is discovered that the Servant does not use this rune to bind contracts, they will be hunted down and terminated.
Shrouded Movement
In the shadows, the Servant of the Shadow can remain undetectable up to a certain range. This range depends on the skill level of the servant. For beginners they can remain undetectable at 50 feet. Every level after that decreases the range by a factor of 2, up to a minimum of 10 feet. This applies to any and all shadows. If in complete darkness, Shrouded Movement's range is halved. As a note, this ability only applies to sight and sound.
Assassinate/Subdue
If a Servant of the Shadow manages to close in on an enemy undetected, they can deliver a finishing blow or a concussive strike of their choosing. If they choose to knock someone unconscious, the victim will be knocked out for a duration, a minimum of one hour.
Shadow Mask
At 10th level, a Servant can manifest a shadow mask, giving them perfect sight of their surroundings in complete darkness. This mask dissipates if exposed to direct light. The mask can only be manifested once per day.
